This introductory course explains the importance of diversity of life to the human society. It concentrates on the classification of organisms from the major groups (plants, animals, and microorganisms) and discusses their ecological importance for functioning of the global ecosystems. In addition, the course describes the concerns associated with biodiversity loss. Examples of biodiversity in Oman will be discussed and evaluated.
